Dear Parents and Carers,

I am delighted to announce that we have been adopted as a school by the Supermarket chain ASDA.This means we now have very close community links with the company and they are helping us out in many ways. The first event will be a baking event when we will be making PUDSY biscuits and cakes to sell for Children in Need. Pudsey will be coming to school. I am very grateful to the company for their help.

We are re-launching our Parents Friends Association next week. We would love to see more mums and dads join us. The meeting is on November 8th at 5.15 in school. We would love you to join us and plan fund raising activities which are so crucial to our school. The PFA are a very friendly group and would love new members to help out.

The PFA are organising a Family Quiz on November 15th. The quiz will be in the school hall and will begin at 6.30. Cheese and wine will be sold on the evening. We had a great evening last time and hope to see lots of you there. Cost of team entry for a family is £5

We still have two vacancies for lunch time supervisors at present. We are short and are looking for an immediate start. If you have a spare hour over the lunch hour we would be grateful for your help. The rate of pay is £178 per month.

We are also delighted to tell you that after school club is resuming next Monday. The club is being organised by a past pupil of our school. The cost of an evenings care is £5 and the club will operate between 3.30 and 6.00pm. Cerys has lots of activities planned and I am sure the club is going to go from strength to strength.

School is extremely busy at the moment. Christmas concerts are now in rehearsal. The productions will be taking place on Tuesday December  6th and Wednesday December 7th. On the 6th Year 5 and 6 will perform in the afternoon at 1.15pm  and Year 3 and 4 in the evening at 6.30pm. On the 7th Year 3 and 4 will perform in the afternoon at 1.15pm and Year 5 and 6 will perform in the evening at 6.30.

Tickets will be going on sale in a few weeks.

Our Community radio station is almost completed. We are very excited and, hopefully, we will be having a grand opening before Christmas.

Thanks for your continued support

Yours sincerely,

Mrs Davies

Welcome back!

A warm welcome back to all pupils and staff. Another school year has started with many changes and new faces. We welcome Miss Wickers, our new Year 3 teacher and Mr Price, our new Year 5 teacher as well as saying a fond farewell to Mr Casey who is moving to another school in the borough.

5th place in Schoolovision 2011!

Posted on May 23rd, 2011 in Uncategorized by llangewydd

We are all very proud of our choir who placed 5th in the recent ‘Schoolovision 2011′ competition. Run on the same ideals as Eurovision, Schoolovision linked up 28 schools from across Europe. Each school recorded a song and video which were uploaded to the competition blog (http://schoolovision2011.blogspot.com/). Our song, Adiemus by Karl Jenkins was well received and can be seen on our website. We watched all of the videos and decided that the entry from Estonia was our favourite and received the full 12 points from the Welsh judges!

During an exciting live voting event through Flashmeeting, we were overjoyed to see Wales in the top 5! The eventual winners were the Czech republic with a very professional looking video and catchy tune.

We are all looking forward to Schoolovision 2012 where we hope to do even better!

Dear Parents and Carers,
I thought it important to remind you of some dates of events coming very quickly at school.

Tomorrow we are having the first meeting of our school community Values Forum. We are hoping some parents will join us along with some of our children and staff. We want to establish what values are important to us as a school.
The meeting will now take place at 2.30pm tomorrow afternoon. This will enable children to attend and also for choir to take place as usual. We have a large choir and with Christmas coming it is important that we continue with our practices.

We therefore look forward to seeing you tomorrow at 2.30pm where we can hold the first of what I am sure will be many Values meetings. The meeting will take place in our kitchen where we hold our coffee mornings.

On Wednesday we are holding the second information meeting of the term. This week Mr Smith will present an ICT morning. He will provide information on the many programs the children use and how you can support your children at home. We look forward to seeing as many people as possible in school. The meeting will take place at 11.00am in the kitchen.

Tickets are now available for the Christmas concerts. Practices are in full swing. Tickets are three pounds for adults and one pound for children.
Dates of the concerts are as follows:
Tuesday 7th December Year 3 and 4 1.30pm Year 5 and 6 6.30pm
Wednesday 8th December Year 5 and 6 1.30pm Year 3 and 4 6.30pm

On Friday December 3rd the school is holding its annual Christmas Fayre.

On December 9th the children will be having Christmas Dinner.

On December 14th the school will be holding its Christmas Service of Lessons and Carols at Newcastle Church, This is a wonderful event. We look forward to seeing many parents in Church. The service will start at 6.30 pm.

We look forward to seeing you over the coming weeks.
Yours sincerely

Last night was Llangewydd’s first rugby training session with new coach Mr Dixon. The players were in high spirit and excited to start the seasons training. They focused on ball skills and attacking during yesterdays session and everyone put in 100%.

We are extremely grateful that Mr Dixon is giving up his time to work with the rugby team and looking forward to the upcoming matches and tournaments.

Come on Llangewydd!!!!!

Rounders- Llangewydd vs Tremains

Posted on June 29th, 2010 in Uncategorized by clarkso

A clean sweep against the fiery Tremains!!
Both the A and B team won their matches :)
Team A batted 33 times with 5 members of the team being caught out.
This didn’t fase Team A… When Tremains were batting, Llangewydd worked really hard to stick to the teams strategies and Tremains were only able to score 7 in the first match and 5 in the second.
Llangewydd A Team scored 10 rounders in the first match and 9 in the second, a fantastic achievement!

Team B had their best game of the season, they worked well and communicated in excellent style. Llangewydd scored 10 easy rounders and Tremains scored 3 rounders.

Both teams played exceptionally well, you should be proud!

Annwyl Rieni/Gwarchodwyr,
Dear Parents and Carers,

Sport’s Day yesterday was a great success. Well done to all the children. It was a pleasure to see every child compete. Coity House (Gold) were the victors at the end. But yesterday we felt that every child was a winner. Thanks also to the PFA who worked so hard to deliver the refreshments in the afternoon. A big thank you to all staff and PFA members for making the day such a success.

Next week the PFA are organising our Summer Fayre. This is taking place on Friday July 2nd. They are working hard to obtain raffle prizes and would be grateful for anything anyone could contribute. They are also organising a stall where second hand uniform and football/rugby boots are being sold. If you have anything you could donate to this please send it in to school. We are planning to sell off the lost property also. If you do have anything you think may be in the lost property basket please come to school this week and see if you can find the items before the PFA take them to be washed and put on the stall.

On Tuesday we are holding our Sportathon. Young people from Bryntirion Comprehensive School will be working with our children in a variety of sporting events. This is a great partnership event and the children will have some great sporting experiences.

On Monday the school is being judged as a finalist in the ICT Schools of Excellence Award in the category of ‘Best ICT school in Wales’. We are being compared against Secondary Schools and FE colleges. So it is a great achievement to have made it to the finals. Well done to all of our ICT experts. Good luck to everyone for Monday.

If you think you can help in any way with the Fayre on the 2nd July please contact the school or Mrs Bennet, Mrs Gronow or Mrs Gilmore or any other members of the PFA.

We look forward to seeing you in the coming weeks at the many events we have planned.

Diolch yn Fawr, Thank you very much,
Yr eiddoch yn gywir, Yours sincerely,

S.C.Davies
