Annwyl Rieni/Gwarchodwyr,
Dear Parents and Carers,
We are all delighted that the snow has finally disappeared. It has been a very difficult two week period. My concern is always for the children and staff and what is safe for them. If and when the snow comes again in the future there will be several ways to ensure you know if the school is open or not.
- I would suggest very strongly that you listen to Bridge FM radio on those days as they will list the schools closed from early morning (apparently the web site is not updated so quickly so is not as reliable).
- If you ring the school, the answer phone message will be updated daily.
- The school web site will be updated daily.
- The BBC will be contacted and the school will be listed on BBC Wales who then place it on the web site.
Let’s hope we do not need these processes too often and certainly not again this year.
On Monday we are holding a fund raising event for the Haiti Earthquake. We are writing the word Haiti on our school yard and are looking to cover it with coins. If you could send some coins to school on Monday for us to contribute to the very important fund raising effort we would be very grateful. Any amount will be very gratefully received.
On the back of the letter we have included a flyer from our MP Mrs Madeleine Moon. Mrs Moon came to speak with Year 6 in December and she is now hoping to speak with parents to stress the importance of internet safety.
Our eisteddfod is being held on March 1st. On March 3rd we will be holding our Celtic Evening so you will be able to view the usual excellent work that is produced to celebrate our national day.
Diolch yn Fawr, Thank you very much,
Yr eiddoch yn gywir, Yours sincerely,
S.C.Davies

Pupils brought in bags of coins this week to support the relief effort following the earthquake in Haiti.
We spelled out the word Haiti with the coins we all brought in. After counting the mountain of money, we found that we had collected a total of £260!
Well done to everyone who supported the fund raising. The money will be sent to the Disasters Emergency Committee who are an umbrella organisation for 13 fundraising organisations in th UK. This is one of the fastest ways of getting aid to where it is needed. Click on the link if you would like to donate money yourself.

Dear Parents and Carers,
Christmas concert preparations are now in full swing. We are all looking forward to the performances next week. Tickets are flying out of school. Times for performances are as follows:
Tuesday 8th December:
Year 3 and 4 - 1.30pm
Year 5 and 6 – 6.30pm
Wednesday 9th December:
Year 5 and 6 – 1.30pm
Year 3 and 4 – 6.30pm
Tickets for the Year 3 and 4 evening performance are now sold out. So many thanks to all for supporting us. We are very grateful and I can assure you the money will be put to very good use. The choir and orchestra will perform at the start of each concert.
Unfortunately we are going to have to postpone our Christmas Fayre until the New Year. Santa rang to say that he was so busy that he could not find the time to attend and we had some problems with the catering for the afternoon, so we have decided to wait until the New Year and enjoy the afternoon then.
We are selling a calendar designed by the very talented Ben Deere in Year 4. This is a colouring in calendar with a Fairy Tale stories theme. The quality of the drawings is superb and I am sure the calendar will be extremely popular and useful for the forthcoming year. The calendar will be £2 and will be on sale from Friday December 4th and before the Christmas concerts.
On Monday 14th December, the school choir are singing in the Civic Offices in Bridgend and on Tuesday there will be our traditional Lessons and Carols Service at Newcastle Church (6.30pm start). All parents are very welcome. It really is the start of Christmas for all of us here in school.
On the 4th December our MP Madeleine Moon is coming to school. She will be speaking to Year 6 about Internet Safety. We are looking forward to welcoming her to school.
We look forward to seeing many of you over the coming weeks
Many thanks for your continued support,
Yours sincerely,
S.C.Davies
